06/09/2010 - Outstanding performance at Southern Arizona Language Fair

Congratulations to Evilina Kadimova! Her performance in the Russian Poetry contest at Southern Arizona Language Fair has been considered as outstanding by the jury. She won 1st place. Southern Arizona Language Fair was held last Saturday at the University of Arizona and gathered two thousand participants from southern Arizona schools and universities. Evilina is a 4th grade student. It's her third year of participation in the Language Fair. She is already familiar with the University of Arizona campus, auditoriums and some professors. This year she already earned invitation to submit application at University of Arizona by a UofA Language Fair jury. Keep going, Evelina!

06/07/2010 - AMS Students Take Top Individual and Team Honors at International Math Competition

Congratulations to Amanda Keen who earned 1st place in the State of Arizona for grade 9, and Brian Lash who earned 1st place in the State of Arizona for grade 10 in the “Math Kangaroo International Math Competition.” AMS also placed first for the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade teams. The following students represented the Academy of Math and Science on these teams which took 1st place: 7th grade: Alexis Moore, Harley Todd, David Arutyunyants, and Ian Cutlip; 8th grade: Austin Castle, Jordan Bruckmeier, Roberto Lee, and Raymundo Solis; 9th grade: Amanda Keen, Christina Spafford, and Eduardo Garcia.

05/31/2010 - AMS Artists Win Big

Two AMS students took home top prizes in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving poster contest. Congratulations to Harley Todd who placed 2nd overall and Sarina Ellis who placed 3rd overall. Their creative skills have paid off, as they were awarded a $200 and $150 gift certificate to Target.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Wednesday March 24th from 3:15-6:00pm. There will be no After School Tutoring, Clubs nor Extended Care. 02/22/2010 - Graduation Photos

On March 17, all students in kindergarten, fifth, eighth and twelfth grades will have graduation photos taken. Students will be photographed in silver and royal blue cap and gowns (school colors). All students in these grades will receive a complementary 5x7 graduation photo. No prepayment required.

02/13/2010 - Science Olympiad Victory !

On Saturday, February 13, 2010, seven of the members of the AMS Science team competed in Science Olympiad. Our students participated in 8 out of 20 events. Our results were fantastic!!! We won 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th places in diffferent competitions. Congratulations! We are looking forward to the next competition on March 13, 2010 in Phoenix.

Menu change on February 22nd and 23rd. Due to the need to set up science fair in the cafeteria on Feb. 22nd and 23rd, all students will eat lunch on the basket ball courts. There will be a menu change on those days.

Senior and Parent College Financial Aid Meeting on Wed Feb 10, from 3:00-5:00 in the AMS computer lab. This is a great opportunity for parents and students to get help completing the FAFSA, the online federal financial aid application.

PAC Meeting dates: March 4, April 8, May 6. Parent Action Committee meetings begin at 5:30 pm with a potluck dinner followed by the meeting for parents and a movie for students. The meetings adjourn at 7:00 pm.

Winter picture day is February, 8. Pictures will only be taken of those students who have prepaid. Students may wear their uniform or dress up for the pictures on that day. No jeans or t-shirts allowed.

AMS is happy to announce the opening of its second state-of-the-art computer lab. All grades from Kindergarten through twelfth grade will utilize this facility.

Elementary school students have almost completed their Winter NWEA session. The results will be posted in February. Nevertheless, you are welcome to request your student results before this date, if you have scheduled parent-teacher conference or if you have some particular concerns about your student progress.

12/18/2009 - International Winter Celebration

The International Winter Celebration was held all day on December 18, 2009. Students and teachers wore different cultural attire, tasted a variety of ethnic food, and participated in international games and workshops. We had a pot luck and students brought in a dish that was a winter tradition for their family. We had a feast! Mrs. Perry and Ms. Ciesielski-Motta thank all our parent's for their help and participation in making this annual event a success. The Academy of Math and Science is an educational community that promotes acceptance of cultural diversity.
