Congratulations AMS Science Teams !

On Tuesday, March 9, 2010, AMS students competed at the Southern Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (SARSEF) at the Tucson Convention Center. Awards Night was Thursday, March 11, 2010. This was a very competitive year with 1450 projects and only 300 awards. Our students' hard work and effort paid off!

1st Place Grand Award earned by Second Grade Class. Project: Magical Life Savers. Teacher - Ms. Jessica Salo.

1st Place Grand Award earned by Reanna Lee and Karisma Webber (6th Grade). Project: The Affect of Light on Fish Activity. This project also earned an Honorable Mention from the Southern AZ Section of the International Dark Skies Association.

2nd Place Grand Award earned by Third Grade Class. Project: The power of Levers. Teacher - Mrs. Hartley, Science Enrichment class

1st Place award earned by Maria Lipetz (4th grade) from Southwest Gas. Project: Static Electricity.

On Saturday, March 13, 2010, our Science Olympiad team ROCKED at the State Science Olympiad competition held Saturday March 13, 2010 in Phoenix:

2nd place - Can't judge a powder; 3rd place - Bio-process Lab; 7th place - Buttery Buggy; 8th place - Trajectory; 9th place - Pentathlon

On Saturday, February 13, 2010, seven of the members of the AMS Science team competed in Science Olympiad. Our students participated in 8 out of 20 events. Our results were fantastic!!! We won 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th places in different competitions.

06/10 - Summer Reading: Travel and Explore the World

As a parent, you already know how important reading is to your child's success in school as well as later in his/her adult life; but once summer vacation begins, it seems books most often take a backseat to summer activities. Besides participation in healthy physical exertion, please, encourage your child to exercise their brain by reading. Attached you will find lists of books by grade level to help in the mental exploration and travel through summer reading fun.

Use it or lose it is a commonly used adage which relates to why StudyIsland.com is so important. Research has shown that students who do not use the skills and knowledge that they had acquired during the school year in the summer, will lose a portion of those skills and knowledge before school resumes in the fall. 06/09 - Outstanding performance at Southern Arizona Language Fair

Congratulations to Evilina Kadimova! Her performance in the Russian Poetry contest at Southern Arizona Language Fair has been considered as outstanding by the jury. She won 1st place. Southern Arizona Language Fair was held last Saturday at the University of Arizona and gathered two thousand participants from southern Arizona schools and universities. Evilina is a 4th grade student. It's her third year of participation in the Language Fair. She is already familiar with the University of Arizona campus, auditoriums and some professors. This year she already earned invitation to submit application at University of Arizona by a UofA Language Fair jury. Keep going, Evelina!

06/07 - AMS Students Take Top Individual and Team Honors at International Math Competition

Congratulations to Amanda Keen who earned 1st place in the State of Arizona for grade 9, and Brian Lash who earned 1st place in the State of Arizona for grade 10 in the “Math Kangaroo International Math Competition.” AMS also placed first for the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade teams. The following students represented the Academy of Math and Science on these teams which took 1st place: 7th grade: Alexis Moore, Harley Todd, David Arutyunyants, and Ian Cutlip; 8th grade: Austin Castle, Jordan Bruckmeier, Roberto Lee, and Raymundo Solis; 9th grade: Amanda Keen, Christina Spafford, and Eduardo Garcia.

05/31 - AMS Artists Win Big

Two AMS students took home top prizes in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving poster contest. Congratulations to Harley Todd who placed 2nd overall and Sarina Ellis who placed 3rd overall. Their creative skills have paid off, as they were awarded a $200 and $150 gift certificate to Target.
